SNL live stream: Watch tonight’s new episode with Felicity Jones online

SNL’s first episode of 2017 is hosted by Felicity Jones, with musical guest Sturgill Simpson.

SNL returns from winter hiatus tonight for its first episode since mid-December. Like the first episode of 2016, tonight’s first show of the new year will be hosted by a Star Wars actor, this time by Rogue One actress Felicity Jones, following in the footsteps of The Force Awakens villain Adam Driver.

Jones is mostly known for her dramatic work, including her Oscar-nominated role as Jane Wilde Hawking, ex-wife of theoretical physicist Stephen Hawking, in The Theory of Everything, which earned her co-star Eddie Redmayne a Best Actor Academy Award. She’ll be joined on SNL by country musician Sturgill Simpson, also making his debut on the show tonight.

The long-running NBC sketch series has a lot to catch up with in the political world. Alec Baldwin, who plays President-elect Donald Trump, has confirmed that he will return to the show next week, the day after the inauguration. It’s unclear if he’ll make an appearance tonight in a week where Trump held his first press conference in nearly six months where he responded to allegations that Russia obtained blackmail material against him, including unverified reports that he hired prostitutes to pee on each other in a Moscow hotel room where President Obama once stayed. The week also included various confirmation hearings for Trump’s cabinet selections, and continued meetings at Trump Tower with such celebrities as Steve Harvey, who’s played on SNL by Kenan Thompson.

Baldwin, who recently trolled the incoming president on social media by wearing a Russian language Make America Great Again hat, recently revealed that he plans to take his impersonation to other venues beyond SNL. While the actor acknowledged that he’s not changing anyone’s political opinion, he says that the Critics Choice Award-winning role is “one of the most fun things” he’s ever done. He also pledged to continue to portray Trump on SNL for as long as possible.
