SNL alum Chris Kattan performs Night at the Roxbury routine on Dancing With the Stars 2017 premiere

Chris Kattan earns the lowest score of the “Dancing With the Stars” Season 24 premiere after reprising his “A Night at the Roxbury” role from “SNL.”
Chis Kattan became the first Saturday Night Live alum to join the Dancing With the Stars cast last night, performing a routine inspired by the memorable “The Roxbury Guys” sketches co-starring Will Ferrell during Monday’s two-hour season premiere. In his introductory piece, the comedic actor rattled off some of his most familiar SNL characters, including Mango and Mr. Peepers, but his young partner, Season 19 winner Witney Carson, admitted that she wasn’t familiar with his work.
Kattan then revealed that he had a neck injury that made the head-bobbing move popularized in the skits more difficult, but not impossible to replicate. The couple then danced the Cha Cha to “What Is Love” by Haddaway, which was heard in each of the sketches, including the most famous version co-starring Jim Carrey.

Unsurprisingly, Kattan took a more comedic route for the nightclub-set routine, using what the judges dubbed “goofy bad dancing” while staying in character, even doing a lift aided by two male dancers, which almost made his head bang into the disco ball above them.
Unfortunately, the dance ended up drawing the lowest score of the night from the judges, receiving three 4s and a 5 from Carrie Ann Inaba for a total of 17 out of 40, putting him at the bottom of the leader board below ’80s icons Charo and Mr. T, who are both in their 60s. Luckily, each of the competitors get another chance to impress the judges and the viewers at home next week before the first couple is sent packing.

“The Roxbury Guys” was so popular at the time that it inspired a 1998 movie entitled A Night at the Roxbury based on the recurring skit. However, it was widely panned by critics, and earned just $17 million of its $30 million budget.. Since departing SNL in 2003, Kattan has had recurring roles on How I Met Your Mother and The Middle.
Dancing With the Stars airs Mondays at 8 p.m. on ABC.
