The Daily Show with Trevor Noah to air Trump Inauguration Day episode
By Hector Cruz
Trevor Noah will cover Donald Trump’s Inauguration Day during a special Daily Show installment.
The Daily Show normally takes Fridays off, but Trevor Noah is working overtime this week due to Inauguration Day. The Comedy Central series will celebrate Donald Trump becoming the 45th president of the United States its own satirical way by airing a special episode that night in its normal time slot.
Noah will be joined by MSNBC anchor Joy Reid to help cover the day’s events, including the swearing-in ceremony, Trump’s inaugural speech, and the planned protests in our nation’s capital and throughout the country. The ceremony officially kicked off Thursday with a “Make America Great Again” concert featuring Toby Keith and 3 Doors Down. Long-time contributor Lewis Black recently returned to The Daily Show to mock Trump’s inability to attract major celebrities or performers.

Most of the other late-night shows are also airing new episodes that night and will likely cover the inauguration, including Jimmy Kimmel Live, The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon and The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, though it’s unclear whether the latter show will film Friday’s installment on that day rather than on Thursday as it normally does in order to discuss (and mock) the event. Real Time host Bill Maher will also be back on HBO just in time after a long hiatus.
Under Noah, The Daily Show has aired several special episodes while covering the 2016 presidential campaign, including live shows covering the conventions, debates and Election Night. The success of the live format was extended to @midnight with Chris Hardwick, which as the network recently announced, will air a week of live episodes in mid-February. The show aired a live episode for the first time on Election Day.

During the cable network’s recent panel at the TCA press tour, Comedy Central president Kent Alterman revealed that The Daily Show saw some of its highest ratings of the year during the latter portion of 2016. He went on to compliment Noah, stating: “Trevor has come into his own. He not just has found his comfort level, he also has absorbed American culture and provides a very unique voice in late-night.”
The Daily Show with Trevor Noah airs weeknights at 11 p.m. on Comedy Central.
