Chelsea Handler could very well become the permanent replacement for Trevor Noah this year. The comedian has promised for some time that she would return to late night and has now openly admitted to wanting The Daily Show gig full-time.

Appearing on The Last Laugh podcast, Handler admitted: “They [Daily Show] were saying they needed guest hosts, I was like, yeah, let’s go, I’ll go do that too. And that’s a perfect job for me. That’s a great gig.”

Chelsea Handler wants to host The Daily Show full-time

Whilst Handler is already confirmed as an upcoming guest host on the Comedy Central show, the comedian confirmed that she intends to further talks to become the show’s permanent host.

In November, Handler told Seth Meyers that after filling in for Jimmy Kimmel, she came to the realisation that she must make a return to the late-night lineup.

“I remembered, I was like – ‘Oh this is exactly what I’m built for, you know. Real commentary… being able to comment on things in real-time on a platform,” she said.

Out of all the current late-night shows who will seek new hosts this year, The Daily Show is by far the best match for Handler.

Luckily for her, communications are already underway with the show’s producer, Jen Flanz.

The Comedy Central programme has always had ties with a loyal political audience, open to addressing viewers in a far more partisan fashion.

Chelsea Handler doesn’t want The Late Late Show

Whilst The Late Late Show’s James Corden has also left a slot free in the late-night category, the show has always aimed to stick by a more traditional non-political format.

Handler even admitted during her podcast appearance that she’s far from interested in replacing James Corden due to The Late Late Show’s early morning timeslot.

Even though Handler may believe she has what it takes to replace Trevor Noah full-time, there is no shortage of other possible candidates. Roy Wood Jr. has also long been mentioned as a likely candidate having worked on the show for a number of years.
