Is Saturday Night Live new tonight, January 23?

It has been a very quiet winter in Studio 8H. Saturday Night Live fans shouldn’t expect that to change tonight.
Season 46 of SNL has been on hiatus since Dec. 19. An annual holiday break is nothing new for the sketch show. Given that the season started off with six consecutive episodes and the pandemic safety protocols in place, it’s not all that surprising to see that break go a little longer than usual. SNL may prefer to have a smaller number of episodes clustered together in order to make the most of quarantine and social distancing guidelines.
So while there won’t be a new episode of Saturday Night Live tonight, there is good news. We know when the show will return.
SNL is coming back Jan. 30. It was announced that John Krasinski will be the host and Machine Gun Kelly will be the musical guest. Fans may recall that Krasinski was scheduled to host the first episode that was canceled due to COVID-19 last season. And Machine Gun Kelly is good friends with cast member Pete Davidson, with the comedian even playing the rapper in a recent sketch.

Fans will have big expectations for Saturday Night Live when it returns next week. President Joe Biden’s inauguration (and Bernie Sanders’ mittens) and former President Donald Trump’s impeachment trial offer great options for cold opens.
