Seth Meyers took “A Closer Look” at President Donald Trump’s proposed immigration policy changes, calling them cruel.

Immigration may be the number one issue for President Donald Trump’s reelection campaign. His most recent proposed changes to legal immigration were heavily criticized by Seth Meyers during Wednesday night’s “A Closer Look.”

Immigration has been a major focus for Trump since he launched his campaign ahead of the 2016 election. The promised border wall, paid for by Mexico, was a common talking point. Since taking office, Trump has ranted about caravan invasions, poor countries sending criminals, and the financial burden immigrants place on Americans.

Just like everything else Trump talks about, immigration has been a popular subject on late night shows. The Late Show with Stephen Colbert has looked at Stephen Miller’s role in developing Trump’s immigration policy. Late Night with Seth Meyers examined Trump’s border wall plan.

Now Trump has introduced a proposed change to legal immigration that would create a set of standards that ultimately come down to an immigrant’s wealth. The basic idea is to favor immigrants who won’t use government services like food stamps or housing vouchers. Seth Meyers slammed the plan as cruel in “A Closer Look.”

Meyers highlights how many times Trump has mislead crowds about the immigrant lottery system. Countries are not filling a basket full of names of criminals but that’s how the president describes the process.

Trump’s claim that Americans shouldn’t be paying for people to come in to the country especially bothered Meyers. It gave the Late Night host another chance to rip Trump’s golf hobby which has now cost taxpayers over $100 million.

Meyers argues that there are two reasons for such a cruel immigration policy: Trump’s racism and his failure to deliver on any other promises. Meyers has made it very clear in the past why he calls Trump a racist.

Health care and manufacturing jobs are just two areas Meyers highlights as examples of Trump’s broken promises. The comedian then closes out “A Closer Look” by making a pretty good case that Trump wouldn’t pass his own test as an immigrant.

Immigration will be brought up again and again by President Donald Trump until the 2020 election. Seth Meyers argues that the more promises he breaks, the more cruel Trump will make his immigration policy in a last ditch effort to secure reelection.
