Seth Meyers calls President Donald Trump a racist during “A Closer Look” at attacks against Representative Elijah Cummings.

It is expected for a comedian to poke fun of the president and make jokes out of the things he says or does. But in the Trump era, there are late night hosts like Seth Meyers openly calling the president a racist. And after Monday night’s “A Closer Look” Meyers lays out his reasons why President Trump deserves the label.

Calling President Trump a racist isn’t a new trend and certainly not one in late night. Hosts like Stephen Colbert have called out Trump for racism in the past. It just seems to be happening more frequently these days as Trump continues to use Twitter to attack minority members of Congress.

Trump’s latest target is Representative Elijah Cummings of Maryland. Cummings acts as the chair of the House Committee on Oversight and Reform. It is Cummings role in investigating the Trump White House that has led Trump to attack Cummings and his city of Baltimore.

On Monday night’s Late Night with Seth Meyers “A Closer Look” was used to break down Trump going after Cummings. Meyers argues that the president is not only frustrated by oversight on the executive branch but that his personal attacks are racially motivated.

Seth Meyers opens in relentless fashion by absolutely going in on President Trump. You can tell that the latest streak of Twitter attacks has really hit a nerve with Meyers. Credit to him and his writing staff for continuing to come up with creative and original ways to insult Trump after all this time. That’s probably how you end up with an Emmy nomination.

Meyers suggests that the “fundamentally lawless” president is losing his mind over the investigations targeting him. So in response, Trump is going after Cummings for leading the Oversight Committee.

Meyers hits back against Trump’s disparaging remarks towards Cummings by calling the president’s brain “infested.” He points out the president’s pattern of attacking men and women of color in Congress and argues that Trump’s racism should be a factor in bringing impeachment proceedings.

Fans probably haven’t seen Meyers this angry and disgusted in a long time, if ever. This edition of “A Closer Look” wasn’t as heavy on jokes as previous segments. That should give viewers a sense of just how serious Meyers takes the idea of Trump as a racist.
