Jimmy Kimmel responded to some of his favorite Trump targets as they celebrated the release of the Mueller report.

If you thought that late night hosts were going to back off the Trump administration in the wake of the Mueller report, then you don’t know late night hosts. So while some pundits and politicians have been demanding apologies, hosts like Jimmy Kimmel decided to stick with the same approach as always.

We already saw that Stephen Colbert didn’t change his tune on The Late Show. Just because reports are that Robert Mueller found no evidence of collusion, late night wasn’t going to suddenly take it easy on President Trump and his associates.

After all, there is a reason that Trump has called late night shows like Jimmy Kimmel Live! “boring” and “one-sided.” But maybe President Trump would at least be happy that Jimmy Kimmel took aim at some people other than him on last night’s show.

It’s no secret that the Trump administration puts a lot of emphasis on television and how things are covered on news shows on CNN and Fox News. So to celebrate Mueller’s good news, Team Trump was out in full force across television, as well as social media, to gloat. It gave Kimmel yet another reason to pick on his favorite targets.

First up was Press Secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders. She took to Twitter to send out a March Madness spoof of everyone who has been critical of Trump. The idea seemed like something you’d see on Saturday Night Live.

If Kimmel is genuinely pitying Sanders for having to do the job of press secretary, then it marks a natural progression from the host regarding Sanders. It wasn’t too long ago that Kimmel said Sanders should be fired for tweeting out a doctored video of CNN’s Jim Acosta.

Next was President Trump’s personal lawyer Rudy Giuliani. Giuliani has developed a reputation for having some shaky appearances on live television. But with the confidence of Mueller report finding no collusion, he was free to try bullying CNN into an apology.

Kimmel could only really sit back and laugh at Giuliani. The late night host was one of many who piled on the former New York City mayor for his disastrous and hilarious interview on CNN earlier this year.

Finally it was time to hear from Donald Trump, Jr., AKA DJTJ. The Kimmel-Trump, Jr. feud is well-documented. Trump Jr. may be Kimmel’s favorite person to make fun of after the president. Mocking DJTJ’s beard is pretty low-hanging fruit for Kimmel. But it does come just a few days after Jimmy Kimmel Live! gave us the first look at Trump Jr.’s 2024 campaign ad that had a bit more bite to it.

It looks like there is no winning for Team Trump at least when it comes to late night. Jimmy Kimmel and the rest will always find something to mock or laugh at when it comes to this administration. Characters like Sarah Huckabee Sanders and Rudy Giuliani certainly seem to help the cause for both sides, so maybe it’s a win-win after all?
