Jimmy Kimmel was at a breaking point last night after exposing the doctored video of CNN reporter Jim Acosta’s encounter with a White House intern tweeted by Sarah Huckabee Sanders.

Night after night Jimmy Kimmel rips on the Trump administration. He calls out every lie, hypocrisy, and slip up. It may seem like Kimmel and the rest of his late night colleagues were numb to it all. That is until Press Secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders went after CNN reporter Jim Acosta.

Acosta has been no stranger to getting under the skin of the Trump White House. His first mistake, apparently, is working for the “fake news” CNN. Then, he has the audacity to perform his job and actually ask questions of Sanders and Trump. Things boiled over during Trump’s recent press conference when an intern attempted to take the microphone from Acosta.

The CNN reporter had the support of most, if not all, of his colleagues. However it was still enough for Trump to revoke Acosta’s White House press pass. He is now banned from covering the administration on the front lines. To justify this overreaction, Sanders tweeted a video from her official account showing Acosta preventing the intern from taking the microphone. This video caught Kimmel’s attention.

Using anything from InfoWars should be a fireable offense. Using a doctored video from InfoWars on a government communication channel should be a fireable offense. Using a doctored video from InfoWars on a government communication channel to spread a lie and discourage free press? Kimmel is right but we all know nothing will happen.

This effort to spread a falsehood is typical of the Trump playbook. Kimmel knows this better than most which is why he follows up with the puppet version of Kellyanne Conway. The administration continues to believe that saying something enough times on television and on Twitter will make it true. As Kimmel has said, he knows that this climate is temporary.

Hopefully CNN will replace Jim Acosta with someone equally up to the task of pushing back against Trump, Sanders, and the rest. If the president can’t handle one reporter challenging him, how does he expect to handle a House now against him? We’ll wait and see, and so will Jimmy Kimmel.
