John Oliver on President Trump’s decision to ditch the White House Correspondents’ Dinner: “Who gives a sh*t?”

TMZ cameras caught up with Last Week Tonight host John Oliver on Tuesday to get his reaction to Donald Trump’s decision to skip this year’s White House Correspondents’ Dinner, an event that the comedian described as “bullsh*t.”

“I think it’s meaningless,” Oliver told TMZ of Trump’s decision to skip the dinner. “If you can find yourself prioritizing being annoyed by that, then it’s pretty impressive. I’ll put that at the 250th most-concerning thing at the moment. And that’s generous.”

But TMZ continued to goad him over Trump breaking a decades-long tradition, which was last broken while Ronald Reagan recovered from an assassination attempt, though he still delivered a message by phone, but Oliver was having none of it.

”Who gives a shit? . . . There are thousands of things that are more concerning than that—than him not going to a dinner, which is kind of bullshit anyway,” he stated.

The outlet ended by questioning whether he thinks Trump will spend the night working instead.

“I don’t think there’s any reason to believe he’s ever secretly in a room working,” Oliver said. “I don’t know what he’s doing, but working doesn’t seem to be one of them.”

The move has prompted fans of Alec Baldwin’s impersonation of Trump to encourage the actor to deliver the keynote address in lieu of the president. Comedian Anthony Atamanuik has also volunteered to fill-in for Trump, who he regularly impersonates on shows like Comedy Central’s @midnight. The event routinely books a comedian to roast the president and the press, but they’ve yet to announce whether that tradition will continue, though Full Frontal host Samantha Bee is hosting an alternative gala in Washington D.C. on the same night on April 29.
