Full Frontal host Samantha Bee will be hosting a roast of president Donald Trump on the same night as the White House Correspondents’ Dinner.

This year’s White House Correspondents’ Dinner is expected to be one of the most awkward ones in recent memory. The idea of journalists, Donald Trump’s administration and celebrities all trying to have fun after everything that’s going on over the last few weeks is definitely a strange one.

However, Full Frontal host Samantha Bee has decided to take it upon herself to host a different kind of dinner on the exact same night. Whereas the jokes will be tense at the White House Correspondents’ Dinner, Bee’s event will be focused mostly on taking shots at the president.

On April 29th, the same night as the Correspondent’s Dinner, Bee and her Full Frontal associates will be hosting their gala called “Not the White House Correspondents’ Dinner”.

“We’re not trying to supersede it,” Bee said according to Dave Itzkoff from The New York Times. “We just want to be there in case something happens — or doesn’t happen — and ensure that we get to properly roast the president.”

“We were talking out loud about whether we thought the White House Correspondents’ dinner would change during a Trump presidency, or if it would even exist,” she said. “And then we thought, Why don’t we just do one, just to do it in the way that we would want it done if we were hosting it?”

Although nothing has formally been announced, the dinner is expected to be broadcast in some form on TBS, the network that hosts her show Full Frontal. It will be interesting to see how many people show up to Bee’s event, including how many will go her gala instead of the Correspondents’ Dinner.
