Jimmy Kimmel announces the nominees and the winner of the Best TV Clip of 2016.

We’re nearing the end of 2016, which means various publications and websites have begun posting their best of year-end lists, and film awards season has officially kicked off. On Wednesday, Jimmy Kimmel Live continued their annual tradition of handing out their own award for the best clip of the year.

“As the year winds down, it’s time to honor the true heroes of our show: our TV watchers,” host Jimmy Kimmel began. “Four actual human people sit through endless hours of television to find the absolute best of the absolute worst, and tonight, thanks to their efforts under inhumane conditions, we will name one of those moments that they found ‘Clip of the Year.'”

The first nomination went to “Malted Milk Bald,” where someone matched a handful of malted milk balls with a man’s shiny bald head sitting in front of him. The second clip was a news segment dubbed “Beach Balls” where a sand castle was turned into a phallic symbol.

The third nominee, “Torna-doh,” featured a weatherman who became increasingly frustrated with the cameraman for continuously panning away from the storm’s wall cloud. Meanwhile, “Lotion Commotion” starred a dad interviewed on the news during a winter storm who was out buying his son some hand lotion as a gift for doing well on his test.

Lastly, the longest clip was one from Kimmel’s own network, titled “GOP Pile-up,” from an ABC News debate during the Republican primaries. It starts off well enough as the moderators announce Chris Christie to the stage, but things soon go off the rails after they announce Ben Carson’s name. The neurosurgeon apparently isn’t able to hear his name over the cheers from the audience, so instead of walking out to his podium, he awkwardly stands in the hall to the debate stage, as a backstage crew member attempts and then gives up on trying to get him to go out. Most of the candidates walk past him, but Donald Trump soon decides to join Carson, causing a pile-up in the process.

The award goes to Carson’s GOP debate moment. Kimmel says that the soon-to-be-head of HUD in the Trump administration is on hand to accept the award. However, he fails to come out after several announcements.

Wednesday’s episode also featured the latest edition of “Drunk Donald Trump,” the show’s signature way of lampooning the president-elect, this time during a victory rally in Wisconsin as he gave a shout out to House Speaker Paul Ryan. It also included appearances by David Spade and Metallica, who not only performed two songs and sat down for an extended interview, but also competed against a super fan to see who knew more about band. The segment, titled “Who Knows?,” is getting its own spinoff on ABC called Big Fan, hosted by Conan O’Brien’s long-time sidekick, Andy Richter. It becomes the latest late-night viral hit to get its own series, following Lip Sync Battle, “Carpool Karaoke” and “Drop the Mic.”

Jimmy Kimmel Live airs weeknights at 11:35 p.m. on ABC.
