16. Maeve’s escape plans are manufactured

Definitely, one of the most interesting characters on the show is Maeve. Lots of the hosts are getting glitches or other problems with their programming. But Maeve really seems to be becoming fully sentient. Is her artificial intelligence really evolving to the point where she has a soul? Is she aware of what’s going on, and planning an escape because she feels scared?

That’s one possibility. Another is that her sentience is just part of a new design. We know that there are people implanting devices into the hosts to broadcast information out of the park. Sylvester and Felix also discover that someone seems to be messing with Maeve’s code. Could these things be linked?

After all, if someone outside of the park wanted complete access to a host, this would be an excellent way to do it. By remotely changing her programming, she could be changed to be “aware” of what’s happening in the labs. She could then plot her escape, seemingly to save herself, but will actually take herself to the folks spying on the park. It would mean that the bots aren’t really sentient after all, but it does provide a believable explanation to Maeve’s sudden awareness.
