Mary Steenburgen (Arkansas)

Veteran actress Mary Steenburgen was born in 1963 in Newport, Arkansas. She would graduate from high school and go on study drama at Hendrix College. Enjoying being bitten by the acting bug, she sought to pursue a career in the field. Steenburgen then relocates to Texas to audition for a slot in New York City’s Neighborhood Playhouse. She wins, and the rest, of course, is history.

The actress has an extensive film resume, but Steenburgen has become known for doing solid performances on television. Her most notable is probably that on Orange is the New Black, the Netflix original series. Steenburgen plays Delia Powell, the mother of a guard imprisoned for fornicating with a pregnant inmate. Steenburgen’s character wants to raise the baby herself, even after learning the baby isn’t really her grandson.

You’ll find Steenburgen on several other recent shows as well. She appears in programs like Justified, 30 Rock, Wilfred, and even as herself on Curb Your Enthusiasm. Most recently, she plays on the sitcom series The Last Man on Earth as Gail Klosterman. She’s certainly an actress most people will recognize from somewhere, simply based on her sheer number of roles. And she plays each one to perfection.
