Stephen Colbert wants a job offer from Donald Trump

Stephen Colbert has a pretty successful gig as host of The Late Show. But that doesn't meant he comedian is satisfied. Colbert used his monologue on Monday night to ask for a job in Donald Trump's new administration.

Since winning the election earlier this month, Trump has wasted no time in filling out his cabinet. Controversial picks like Matt Gaetz, Kristi Noem, Pete Hegseth, and Dr. Oz have kept late-night TV hosts like Colbert busy.

There seems to be a common theme among many of President-elect Trump's cabinet picks: they're frequent television personalities. So if that's part of the criteria for a job in the Trump administration, Stephen Colbert wants in.

"Everyone with a TV show gets a call," Colbert said of Trump's cabinet nominations. "Where's my job offer?"

Colbert even had a deal in place for Trump to secure a job in the upcoming administration. "I will stop talking about you altogether," Colbert said to Trump, "if I get an ambassadorship. But I mean a good one. I'm talking any country mentioned in the song 'Kokomo.'"

Now if we suspend disbelief just for a moment, this could actually be a pretty good deal for President Trump. He's made it clear he considers Stephen Colbert an enemy and has insulted the comedian's talents. Giving Colbert a meaningless ambassadorship gets him out of Trump's hair.

On the other side, Colbert admitted that he doesn't want to talk about Trump all the time. He said as much after the election when he revealed the "material" Trump gives The Late Show isn't worth it. One way to stop talking Trump? Work for him.

The reality is that Trump's remaining cabinet positions and ambassadorships are likely to be filled with more puzzling, head-scratching choices. So Colbert shouldn't exactly be packing his bags for Kokomo.
