Stephen Colbert on Trump's bizarre press conference: 'It's gonna be a long four years'

The Late Show with Stephen Colbert is still trying to get back into the swing of things following the holiday break. And nothing gets a Stephen Colbert monologue going quite like a rambling press conference by Donald Trump.

The president-elect spoke from Mar-a-Lago this week, where he floated a few attention-grabbing ideas. Among them were renaming the Gulf of Mexico the "Gulf of America."

That was the first line Colbert got through in his monologue on Tuesday night before taking a deep breath. "It's gonna be a long four years," he told his audience before attempting to dive deeper into Trump's comments.

Colbert tried to play along and gave Trump a couple more ideas. New Mexico could become "Dry America" and "Cinco de Mayo" will be the "Fifth of Mayo," heavy on the mayonnaise.

Stephen Colbert still shocked by more of Trump's antics

Donald Trump's press conference wasn't the only thing that caught Stephen Colbert's attention. It truly will be a long four years if the incoming president continues to do or say something outrageous daily.

After a heartwarming tribute to the late President Jimmy Carter, Colbert noted that flags will remain at half-staff during Trump's inauguration. The Late Show host denounced Trump's reaction that "nobody wants to see" flags lowered during a presidential inauguration.

Colbert mocked Trump's claim that Democrats are "giddy" about the flags being lowered during the inauguration. The late-night TV star reminded the president-elect that glee isn't exactly the emotion most closely associated with death.

The Late Show with Stephen Colbert is only two shows into 2025 and is already signaling Trump fatigue. Stephen Colbert may not want to cover the new president for the next four years, but his audience will absolutely tune in to find someone who can make sense of it all.
