From the outside looking in, hosting a talk show may seem like it is an easy job. While many professions are much harder, the truth is that talk show hosts also have to deal with a lot of stress. For example, it would have been very challenging when Seth Meyers had to deal with his most difficult guest. On top of that, talk show hosts need plans for how not to get in trouble like Jimmy Kimmel recently did.
Of course, the biggest thing that a talk show host has to do is make sure that the series they star in is entertaining. That is why it is a good thing that there are recurring Late Night with Seth Meyers segments that the show's fans find very entertaining. Sadly, however, even finding success became a problem for Meyers since he revealed how much he suffers after filming the best part of his talk show.
Seth Meyers suffers after filming Day Drinking segments
Unfortunately for talk show fans, the truth is that the format can lead to boring television sometimes. After all, many celebrities seem to have their guards up when they go on those shows because they are worried about saying or doing something that could hinder their careers. During Day Drinking with Seth segments of Late Night with Seth Meyers, however, those walls quickly come tumbling down. For that reason, those segments that show Meyers and his guests letting loose can often be the most entertaining part of his show.
As entertaining as those segments are for viewers, the show's host has to deal with the aftermath of filming them, and that doesn't sound pretty. After all, not only does Meyers drink excessively while filming those segments, but he does so during the middle of the day, which leaves him having to recover as the night continues.
An April 2024 People article detailed a conversation that Meyers and Andy Samberg had about the Day Drinking segments while talking onstage during a 2024 Paley Fest panel. During that conversation, Meyers explained that the segments cause him to suffer from "bad" hangovers the next day. After calling those serious hangovers "not great," Meyers also explained that the segments have forced him to film his talk show while hungover.
"I think the crazy thing is, like with Kristen Stewart, you’re thinking, Okay, we’ve got a unique opportunity to do it with someone who’s game, but the only day she could do it was a show day. So I had to do that and I did a show the next day. We taped, I went out and did that and taped a show the next day."
While Meyers' story obviously made it clear that filming his show while hungover is a struggle, he seemed to take some pride in pulling that off. "I think I did OK."
During an April 2023 appearance on The Late Late Show with James Corden, Meyers discussed how Day Drinking with Seth segments affect him. As a YouTube video of the conversation shows, Meyers revealed that after filming a segment with Rihanna, Meyers was so far gone that he passed out on the floor as soon as he got home.
"I went home, immediately fell asleep in the hallway of my apartment. Got in the door, fell asleep. My wife — passive-aggressively, James — put a water next to my head and went to bed."
On top of feeling the physical repercussions of filming the Day Drinking segments, Meyers appears to also suffer some emotional stress. In May 2024, Meyers laughed while talking to The Hollywood Reporter about the segments. As a result, it seems like Meyers was at least partially joking when he made this comment. Still, Meyers told the outlet about worrying about his Day Drinking behavior both before and after filming commences.
"I should also note that the minute we book one, I dread it. And then I have a great time, and then I wake up the next morning in a full white-hot panic because I only have a foggy memory of how it went."
