Who's hosting Saturday Night Live tonight, March 9?
By Matt Moore
Saturday Night Live season 49 rolls on tonight with another brand-new episode. SNL welcomes back a returning host to star in tonight's show.
SNL is coming off back-to-back weeks that brought attention for different reasons. Shane Gillis returned to host after SNL fired him a few years ago. Then, Sydney Sweeney delivered high ratings as her fans came out to support the actor.
Tonight's host doesn't exactly have the same following as Gillis or Sweeney, but that shouldn't prevent a solid episode. Josh Brolin hosts Saturday Night Live tonight. He'll be joined by musical guest Ariana Grande.
Brolin hosts for the third time. His previous gigs came in 2008 and 2012. Now, he's back to help promote Dune: Part Two.
Those past hosting gigs proved that Brolin is a reliable host and more than capable of keeping up in any sort of sketches. Anyone that gets through a Macgruber and Californians sketch proves they belong at Saturday Night Live.
What to expect from Saturday Night Live with Josh Brolin tonight
Saturday Night Live has delivered back-to-back duds when it comes to the cold open. There should be no excuses tonight considering the material available.
Most fans are expecting a parody based on the State of the Union address. But it's not Joe Biden's speech that got the internet's attention. It was the GOP response from Alabama Senator Katie Britt.
If SNL decides to mock Britt in the cold open, the question becomes who plays her. Sarah Sherman is match appearance-wise, but her style may not match up with what the cold open requires. Chloe Fineman could get a chance to open the show.
A cameo is always on the table, especially with SNL's recent success going outside the cast for politicians. SNL alumni Kristen Wiig and Vanessa Bayer are popular picks among fans.
It would also be a shock if Ariana Grande doesn't make her way into a sketch. Six musical guests have appeared in sketches so far this season. Grande has experience as a host and has a movie and album to promote. A collaboration with Please Don't Destroy could benefit both sides.
Saturday Night Live airs tonight, March 9, at 11:30 p.m. ET. The show is also available on Peacock.
