Read up on Ariana Grande's dating history ahead of her SNL return
One of pop music's most successful performers is set to make their return to the music scene, and all I'm going to say is that other music artists better be prepared because this pop icon is ready to show the world what it's been missing in the past three or so years.
Of course, I'm talking about Grammy Award-winning singer Ariana Grande, who's best known for her four-octave range. Her highly anticipated seventh studio album, Eternal Sunshine, will be released this Friday, March 8, so make sure to go cop it. She's also set to take the SNL stage as the musical guest on the March 9 episode, so be sure to check that out as well.
With her new album dropping soon and her scheduled appearance on Saturday Night Live, Ariana is all that everyone can seem to talk about. More specifically, we're hearing a lot of chatter about her relationship status. People are wondering if she's dating anyone. No worries! We've got the 411 on her current relationship status and shared everything we know below. In fact, we took it a step further and provided a full dating and relationship history timeline as well.
Are Ariana Grande and Ethan Slater still dating in 2024?
It appears so! The last time they were publicly spotted out together was back in January 2024, when they were photographed holding hands at the airport in New York City. They had just landed in New York and were seen in matching black puffer coats while walking with Ariana's dog, Toulouse. A month prior, Ariana and Ethan were spotted having dinner with Ariana's dad, Ed Butera, at an Italian restaurant in New York City. Ariana reportedly went to see Ethan perform on Broadway in the stage musical Spamalot afterward.
This isn't Ariana's first time seeing the Broadway show either. She was there to support Ethan during the show's first preview performance as well as opening night. According to People, an anonymous source close to Ariana told them that Ariana and Ethan love to support each other in their work. The anonymous source continued by saying, "When she’s done with work, Ariana loves going to the theater when she can."
Ariana and Ethan met while on the set of the upcoming Wicked movies that they're both starring in and eventually formed a romance off-screen. Reports of them being in a relationship started circulating in July 2023. But their new romance caused quite a stir because that same month it was announced that Ariana and her now ex-husband Dalton Gomez were getting a divorce. Around the same time, it was announced that Ethan had separated from his wife, Lilly Jay, with whom he shares a son.
Many people accused Ariana and Ethan of having an affair, but sources claim that they didn't start dating until they were both separated from their spouses. Ariana and Dalton reached a settlement on their divorce back in October 2023, while it appears that Ethan is still in the process of getting a divorce from his wife.
Graham Phillips (2008-2011)
Fellow actor Graham Phillips met the award-winning singer when they were both starring on Broadway in 13: The Musical in 2008. They were believed to be both 15 years old at the time. Ariana played the role of Charlotte, while Graham portrayed Evan. Although they initially started off as friends, they eventually began dating. They would later attend many public events together. But after three years of dating, they decided to part ways in December 2011. In July 2016, Ariana and Graham would reunite for a 13 reunion with some of the other cast. Then, in March 2019, they were spotted out together again at an Italian restaurant in New York. However, nothing seemed to come from their reunion, and they chose to remain friends.
Jai Brooks (2012-2013 and 2014-2014)
I can remember it like it was yesterday. Ariana began dating Australian musical artist Jai Brooks, who's best known for being a former member of the YouTube comedy group The Janoskians, in August 2012. But they went their separate ways in July 2013, with Jai later accusing Ariana of cheating on him with English singer Nathan Sykes. Ariana would later respond to the cheating allegations by accusing Jai of blackmailing her if she wouldn't be with him. Although they ended on rocky terms, they would later rekindle things briefly in May 2014, only to break up for good three months later.
Nathan Sykes (2013-2013)
Ariana began dating Nathan Sykes, English singer and former member of the boy band The Wanted, in August 2013. This was around the same time that their song "Almost Is Never Enough" was released. However, their relationship didn't last long with the pair breaking up only four months later in December. In January 2014, Ariana revealed in a radio interview that the cause of the breakup was because of distance.
Big Sean (2014-2015)
This high-profile relationship was one for the books, and it caused an uproar in a late Glee star's fan base. Ariana and rapper Big Sean were confirmed to be dating back in October 2014, following months of speculation of them being an item. During a 2014 interview with The Telegraph, Ariana confirmed their relationship. She told the news outlet, "He [Big Sean] is one of the most amazing men in the whole world, and that includes my grandfather and my brother. I think the world of him, and he's an amazing person. That's kind of all there is to it."
The singer and rapper had collaborated on a couple of songs together like "Right There" and "Best Mistake," so it wasn't entirely surprising that they ended up getting together. However, the fan base of the late Naya Rivera wasn't happy about this romantic pairing one bit. Big Sean and Naya were engaged for six months before ending their engagement and splitting up in April 2014.
Naya would later allege in her tell-all book Sorry Not Sorry that she found Ariana at Big Sean's home while she and him were still dating. This led many people to believe that Big Sean and Ariana were having an affair while he was still dating Naya, but nothing was ever confirmed. Big Sean and Ariana would later split in April 2015 after eight months of being in a relationship.
Ricky Alvarez (2015-2016)
Remember the lyrics "Wrote some songs about Ricky. Now I listen and laugh" from Ariana's hit song "thank u, next?" Yeah, Ariana was talking about her previous fling with dancer Ricky Alvarez. They were first linked back in July 2015 during the whole donut incident, when Ariana was caught on security footage licking donuts on display at a California bakery. Ricky was standing right next to her in the video and was even seen kissing her. But after dating for a year, they called it quits in July 2016. A fun fact is that Ariana wrote the song “Moonlight,” which is on her Dangerous Woman album, about Ricky.
Mac Miller (2016-2018)
Ariana and late rapper Mac Miller met when collaborating on a Christmas duet of "Baby It’s Cold Outside." They would later collaborate again on Ariana's hit track "The Way," and then on a remix of her song "Into You." After the release of the remix, she and Mac Miller were spotted out having a romantic dinner date at a restaurant in California in August 2016. That same month, they went public with their relationship when they attended the 2016 MTV VMA Awards together and were seen cuddling with each other at the after-party. But after two years of dating, they broke up in May 2018.
After Mac Miller's untimely death in September 2018, Ariana shared a touching tribute to him on her Instagram page where she talked about how much she loved and adored him.
Pete Davidson (2018)
2018 was a surprising year when it was announced that Ariana and former SNL cast member Pete Davidson were dating. Pete confirmed that they were dating through an Instagram post in May 2018. This was shortly after both split from their respective partners. Then, just a month later, it was announced that they had gotten engaged. They had only been dating for a few weeks before getting engaged. Pete is believed to have proposed to Ariana with a $93,000 diamond ring. However, their engagement didn't last long with them officially parting ways in October of that same year.
Mikey Foster (2019-2020)
After seeing them make out in their music video for "Boyfriend," people began speculating that Ariana and Social House member Mikey Foster were more than friends and collaborators. This was in August 2019. That same month, they were spotted holding hands during a night out in Chicago. It was later revealed in February 2020 that they had been dating since June 2019. They split sometime in early 2020.
Dalton Gomez (2020-2023)
Dalton was Ariana's last relationship before getting with her current partner, Ethan Slater. After being spotted kissing during a night out with friends in February 2020, Ariana and real estate agent Dalton Gomez were rumored to be dating. They reportedly met when Dalton had helped Ariana find a house to buy. Their relationship was later confirmed in May 2020, when they slow danced in her and Justin Bieber's music video for "Stuck With U."
In December 2020, Ariana announced their engagement to the world via Instagram. Then, in May 2021, they got hitched. But shortly after their second wedding anniversary in May 2023, they called it quits, with sources saying that they had been having issues for months. It was also said at the time that they had initially separated in January 2023. In September 2023, Ariana and Dalton officially filed for divorce, and a month later, it was finalized.
