Weekend Update is a sketch and parody newscast presented on Saturday Night LiveIt is the brainchild of popular SNL cast member Chevy Chase and SNL writers Herb Sargent and Al Franken, which parodies current events.

The sketch is SNL's longest-running, premiering during the first broadcast of SNL on October 11, 1975. During Chase's run as a news anchor, he often began his bits talking exclusively on the phone to a mystery person, unaware that he was live on air. He used the catchphrase "I'm Chevy Chase...and you're not" and concluded his segment with "That's the news...good night, and have a pleasant tomorrow."

Over the years, many other notable names served as newscasters, including Jane Curtain, Dennis Miller, Kevin Nealon, Norm MacDonald, and Colin Quinn. Personally, I believe MacDonald, with his dry delivery, is the cream of the crop when it comes to Weekend Update anchors.

It is well known that many viewers hold Weekend Update as the best part of an SNL episode. Over the years, many anchors have come and gone, but some team-ups stand out above the rest.

Jimmy Fallon and Tiny Fey (2000-2004)

The first duo newscasters were Jimmy Fallon and Tiny Fey. This dynamic duo made their first appearance in October 2000 and featured recurring features such as "Update Door," featuring SNL cast members as celebrities, and Chris Kattan's "Terrible ReEnactments," where the actor did just that, reenacted a current news story.

Tina Fey and Amy Poehler (2004-2006)

It's tough to beat a Fey/Poehler collaboration. The duo became the first all-female anchors, and their chemistry is always something to behold. Their two-year run was some of the best Weekend Update had to offer.

Amy Poehler and Seth Meyers (2006–2008)

Poehler would then team up with Seth Meyers for a two-year team-up in the anchor roles. Again, these two had great chemistry, and their "Really!?! With Seth and Amy" ranks as one of the top recurring skits for the newscast.

Jane Curtain (with Dan Aykroyd and Bill Murray) (1976-1980)

Curtain often featured the segment solo, but during her time, she was paired with Dan Aykroyd and Bill Murray. While she could hold her own, adding in comedic greats like Aykroyd or Murray only added to the genius of the bit. One high point is the "Point/Counterpoint" skit with Aykroyd which gave us the catchphrase "Jane, you ignorant slut."

Despite who you believe is the best Weekend Update host or team of hosts is, the sketch is brilliant and the highlight of any SNL episode.
