On Monday night, The Daily Show joined other late-night TV shows in taking a long, hard look at President Donald Trump's first 100 days back in office. Jon Stewart boiled it down to three main areas where he believes President Trump has done the most damage.
No one would expect late-night TV to give President Trump a glowing review after 100 days in power. But the results led Stewart, Stephen Colbert, and others to got all out in ripping President Trump's performance in the White House.
The Daily Show started the week with the first installment of its new series, "President Trump's Second First 100 Days: An Incredible 100 Days With Zero Disturbance." Jon Stewart led things off by making the case that President Trump has destroyed America in three key areas.
1. Jon Stewart on Donald Trump's economy
Jon Stewart set up the segment by exploring what President Trump promised vs. what we've seen after 100 days. The late-night host began with the economy and Trump's confidence that the stock market would go up, America would get rich, and the country would experience an "economic boom."
"Unfortunately, I do think it's pretty clear that on the economy, Donald Trump did make a boom-boom," Stewart said. The comedian went on to attack Trump for expanding his personal net worth while many Americans suffer financial losses.
2. Donald Trump's Ukraine approach and America's reputation
Stewart next took aim at Donald Trump's policy toward Ukraine and Russia. According to the Daily Show host, all that the president has accomplished is ruining the United States' reputation.
The comedian hammered Trump for his campaign promises to end the war in Ukraine "on day one." Instead, Russia continues to attack Ukraine and U.S. peace proposals haven't required Russia to make any concessions.
3. Jon Stewart says America has no leverage
Finally, Stewart made the case that America no longer has any leverage on the world stage. The late-night host blasted Trump's tariff policies, suggesting the president didn't properly prepare for the world's reaction.
The Daily Show segment relentlessly mocked Trump's negotiation skills. Stewart questioned how Trump was so easily out-maneuvered by China. But that's not the biggest problem.
"But his negotiating skills aren't the real danger to this country," Stewart said. "What's going to f*** us up is his obsession with the concept of the leverage he thinks he has."
Instead, a fired-up Stewart exclaimed that "we the people" have the leverage. Making America great would be a downgrade from American exceptionalism, he argued.
