It was a Daily Show reunion on Monday night former correspondent John Oliver joined host Jon Stewart on the show. The ex-colleagues got together, warning America about the new era it's entering under President Donald Trump.

Oliver left The Daily Show in 2013 as one of its most beloved correspondents. Since then, he's been the award-winning host of Last Week Tonight with John Oliver. But apparently, recent events have reached a point where Oliver had to go back home and deliver a warning alongside Jon Stewart.

Stewart opened Monday night's show by taking a deep dive into President Trump's "make America great again" agenda in his second term. With the rollback of several regulations and the issue of multiple executive orders, Stewart tried to uncover exactly what era of American history Trump wanted to revive.

When Stewart concluded that the goal is to dismantle the guardrails around executive power, he deduced Trump wanted to abandon the constitutional republic in favor of a monarchy.

Enter John Oliver. The British comedian entered the stage to thunderous applause as Stewart asked if he had any wisdom to share with the country.

"Oh no, no, no, Jon, I am here to gloat," Oliver said. "America had its little fun, didn't you, in experimenting with democracy. You fought so hard to get away from us, acting up, throwing all that tea into the harbor. You still owe us for that by the way."

Oliver went on to compare America to a rebellious teenager, angry at their dad. But in the end, Oliver joked that America would always come back to reality rather than try to use checks and balances to control power.

The Last Week Tonight host wrapped up by welcoming America to its "monarchy era," joining other great empires like the Romans, the British, the Klingon, and the Wakandans.

Stewart tried to play his part as the opposition, but Oliver turned every argument on its head. The British late-night host poked holes in America's current political system and accused the country of doing a very accurate impression of an empire.

Expect Oliver to have more to say about this topic when Last Week Tonight returns to HBO for season 12 on February 16. Hopefully, Jon Stewart returns the favor and stops by the show.
