No matter which late-night TV show you watch, you're likely to hear the same topics covered but with a different spin. That was the case once again on Thursday night as hosts Stephen Colbert, Jimmy Kimmel, and Seth Meyers piled on President Donald Trump.
President Trump's second term is off to a blistering pace when it comes to creating headlines and controversies. Colbert, Kimmel, and Meyers have done their best in trying to keep up and give fresh reactions to the daily news.
So when President Trump announced he was walking back certain tariffs on Mexico and Canada, late-night TV monologues were ready to pounce on Thursday night.
Kimmel says Trump is playing wack-a-mole with the stock market
Jimmy Kimmel's reaction made sure to highlight the effect of Trump's tariffs on the economy. The ABC host joked that Trump's changing policies are no different than the president playing wack-a-mole.
Kimmel also noted that Canadian stores are removing American liquor from the shelves. The comedian sounded in utter disbelief that the U.S. is "shaking down" Canada.
Stephen Colbert calls Trump's tariff 'madness'
Stephen Colbert did his best to trace President Trump's shifting explanations for tariffs. He clipped Trump's speech calling tariffs good for American jobs and necessary to protect the "soul" of the country.
The Late Show host then got whiplash as he reported Trump's plan to pause tariffs on Mexico and Canada. The only possible explanation Colbert could conjure is Trump believing souls to be "overrated."
Seth Meyers takes A Closer Look
Seth Meyers made sure "A Closer Look" put a spotlight on the trade war caused by President Trump's tariffs. The Late Show segment showed several news clips reporting on poor stock performance in the U.S.
Meyers also paid close attention to the impact of tariffs on farmers. He reminded his audience of how egg prices became a sticking point during the election, and those prices haven't improved. Meyers mocked President Trump's attempts to sugarcoat things for farmers, calling the president a "psychopath" for saying "I love you, too" to farmers that initiate anything.
