Jimmy Kimmel‘s monologue fired back at Senator Ted Cruz on Tuesday night. The comedian responded after the Texas Republican dissed late-night TV in a new book.

Cruz published his latest book, Unwoke: How to Defeat Cultural Marxism in America, on November 7. Included in the senator’s musings are his thoughts on late-night TV.

In an excerpt from the book, Cruz writes “late-night TV is virtually unwatchable. I love comedy, but watching angry leftists scream about how much they hate Donald Trump isn’t remotely funny. It’s pitiful.”

Cruz’s criticism does touch on how much of late-night TV is focused on politics and specifically Donald Trump. So if Donald Trump is you guy, it probably isn’t easy to get through a Jimmy Kimmel monologue.

However, Ted Cruz isn’t exactly the best messenger. He’s been a late-night TV punchline for almost as long as Donald Trump. Kimmel made sure to give Cruz some feedback in case the senator was watching Jimmy Kimmel Live! on Tuesday.

“Well, all I’ll say is it’s an honor to be called pitiful by a man who abandoned his dog in an ice storm to go to Mexico,” Kimmel responded. “Congrats, Ted and seriously I do want to say writing a book like this is a huge accomplishment, especially for him,” Kimmel continued. “You know, it’s very difficult to type with hooves.”

Jimmy Kimmel previewed the rest of Ted Cruz’s book

Jimmy Kimmel’s feud with Ted Cruz is well-documented. From Kimmel’s monologue jokes to Twitter exchanges to a 1-on-1 basketball game, the pair have constantly found a way to swipe at each other.

Kimmel added another chapter by previewing Unwoke on Tuesday night. “You can tell it’s Ted’s book because the dust jacket doesn’t quite fit it. It won’t button in the front,” Kimmel teased.

The late-night TV host went on to list off Cruz’s previous books. Kimmel joked the list included A TIme for Truth, Head Ooze, Glued Pubes: The Guide for Guys Who Can’t Grow a Beard, and A Partially Digested Rat and Other Things I Found in My Chin Pouch.

There’s a good chance that Ted Cruz chooses to respond to Jimmy Kimmel. If nothing else, it will bring more attention to his book. The more likely result is that Kimmel has even more material for his monologue as Cruz watch
