Update: See who won Jeopardy! on Friday, May 6 right here.
Jeopardy! has become the “Mattea Roach Show” for over three weeks now. Did the defending champion keep her streak alive tonight?
Roach, a tutor from Toronto, Ontario, Canada, is already in the top-five winningest players in Jeopardy! history. So far, she’s banked $534, 984 through 22 games.
Standing in the way on Thursday were Sarah Snider, a middle school humanities teacher from Fishers, Indiana, and T.J. Lovejoy, a mortgage lender from Chandler, Arizona.
Who won Jeopardy! tonight?
Roach found herself in unfamiliar territory after the “Jeopardy!” round. It was Sarah Snider who held the lead at $8,000. Roach sat in second with $5,000, while T.J. Lovejoy was in third with $400.
Things didn’t get much better for Roach. Snider maintained her lead in “Double Jeopardy!,” finishing with $22,600. The defending champion trailed her with $13,000. Lovejoy failed to qualify for the final round with -$3,600.
It looked like Roach’s streak would end going into “Final Jeopardy!” tonight. However, Snider failed to come up with a correct response, costing her $5,000. Roach wagered big and it paid off: she answered correctly and extended her streak. She has now won $560,983.
What was tonight’s Final Jeopardy! clue?
Roach came through in the clutch in tonight’s “Final Jeopardy!,” even if things didn’t look good for the champ. Here’s the clue in the category “20th Century Cinema”:
A black & white newsreel in this film begins: “In Xanadu did Kubla Khan a stately pleasure dome decree”
Answer: What is Citizen Kane?
Roach answered correctly, but also added a special note with her response: “If this is it, thanks for the fun!” But when Snider couldn’t come up with Citizen Kane, Roach earned the right to keep the good times rolling on Friday.
