On Jimmy Kimmel Live, American icons and monuments said goodbye to President Donald Trump

Former President Donald Trump wanted a massive sendoff celebration on his final day in office. He didn’t quite get that on Wednesday so Jimmy Kimmel Live! was more than happy to put together a goodbye video in honor of the occasion.

According to reports, the Trump White House struggled to put together a crowd for President Trump’s departure from Washington, D.C. Many former cabinet members and administration officials declined to attend what amounted to one final rally at Joint Base Andrews on Wednesday.

Meanwhile, there was cause for celebration at the Capitol as President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris were sworn in. There was no crowd due to pandemic and security concerns but as Stephen Colbert put it, the abnormal day was still a joyous one.

Jimmy Kimmel Live! decided to put together a video in tribute of America and waving goodbye to President Trump. As the late night show described it, the idea was to say “goodbye to Donald Trump, not with venom, not with scorn, but with optimism, jubilance and celebration.” See for yourself below:

Jimmy Kimmel Live turns the tables on President Trump one more time

During his campaign and his presidency, Donald Trump portrayed himself as the ultimate patriot. His administration touted “America first” as its guiding principle. President Trump’s rallies were decorated in red, white, and blue. And President Trump himself often tried to show off his patriotism in some very weird ways.

In the end, many of President Trump’s actions were decidedly un-American and unpatriotic. And in the election, an overwhelming number of Americans voted against him.

So it is fitting that Jimmy Kimmel Live! used some of the most patriotic icons, people, and monuments to sendoff President Trump. Symbols of freedom and democracy come together to celebrate and sign the official anthem for saying goodbye to a loser.

It is the second time in recent weeks that Jimmy Kimmel has turned the tables on President Trump. Fans may recall how Kimmel used the lyrics to “The Snake,” a song President Trump used to warn against immigrants, to mark the decline of the Republican Party.

Even after four long years, it’s good to see late night hosts like Kimmel haven’t run out of ways to mock the now-former president. It wasn’t the goodbye that Donald Trump wanted but for Kimmel, it was perfect.
