The Late Late Show with James Corden found a creative way to play one of its favorite games with Shawn Mendes

The Late Late Show with James Corden has always been creative when it comes to the food and questions featured in “Spill Your Guts or Fill Your Guts.” That creativity was on display again as the show found a way to play the popular game with Shawn Mendes via Zoom.

Like everyone else, late night television has made the most of Zoom during the pandemic and the age of social distancing. It has been used for interviews, sketches, and as the punchline for plenty of monologue jokes.

You might think that “Spill Your Guts or Fill Your Guts” would be one game that didn’t translate to Zoom. But then again, you probably didn’t think that The Late Late Show would ship bizarre and disgusting food across the country just to put Shawn Mendes on the hot seat.

The special Zoom edition of the game featured a few comparison questions, pitting Mendes’ collaborators such as Camilla Cabello against one another as well as Corden’s co-stars in the upcoming Netflix movie The Prom.

James Corden and Shawn Mendes found a balance between spilling and filling their guts

Fans have certainly heard some more challenging questions come out during “Spill Your Guts or Fill Your Guts.” Still, James Corden and Shawn Mendes could have put themselves in an awkward situation or two if they decided to spill their guts on all three questions.

Neither participant wanted to rank their collaborators or friends. For Mendes, picking between Taylor Swift or Justin Bieber was the hard part. The easy part was naming girlfriend Camilla Cabello as his top choice.

For Corden, he refused to pick between Mendes and Harry Styles for best Late Late Show residency behind Nial Horan. It was the same strategy the host used when it came to ranking the acting abilities of his The Prom co-stars Meryl Streep, Nicole Kidman, Kerry Washington, and Andrew Rannells.

So while it wasn’t the most explosive or revealing installment of the game, fans can definitely appreciate the lengths The Late Late Show went to in order to set up the game. The longer that social distancing is in place, the harder it can get for late night shows to switch things up and offer new content. Given credit to James Corden and company for shipping a cow’s tongue and more across the country for the sake of entertainment.
