Jimmy Kimmel reacted to President Donald Trump holding a rally in Iowa even as COVID-19 cases surge

President Donald Trump is making the final push for reelection the only way he knows how: with rallies. But these rallies directly contradict his own administration’s guidelines on social gatherings during the pandemic in what Jimmy Kimmel calls the latest example of White House hypocrisy.

President Trump has declared himself immune from the novel coronavirus but the same can’t be said for thousands of others around the country. According to recent data, no state is moving in the right direction in terms of cases which suggests that the second wave may be upon us.

This hasn’t stopped the president from going out on the campaign trail and holding rallies in multiple states. He’s already been to Florida and Pennsylvania and on Wednesday night, the Trump Train rolled into Iowa for another event.

Last night on Jimmy Kimmel Live!, the host joked that President Trump didn’t think twice, or even once, about holding a rally in Iowa despite COVID-19 concerns. For Kimmel, it was another case of hypocrisy and desperation coming together:

The Trump administration has justified these rallies by noting that they take place outside. They also argue that wearing a mask is a personal choice and not one that should be imposed on people. Kimmel calls the Iowa rally a “superspreader event” and he may not be far off considering the number of COVID-19 cases that have been tied to past Trump rallies.

Jimmy Kimmel is enjoying watching President Trump flail on the campaign trail

Jimmy Kimmel knows that everything has already been said about President Trump’s response to the pandemic. All the late-night host can do is call out the hypocrisy and remind those that are listening that the health crisis is still very real.

But what does amuse Kimmel is seeing President Trump flailing and acting desperately while campaigning. The polls indicate that former Vice President Joe Biden has a sizeable lead–something that clearly hurts the president’s ego.

The Trump campaign has tried multiple strategies when attacking Vice President Biden but none have been able to stick. President Trump’s latest effort to bash Biden was based on saying he wasn’t nice in addition to being dumb. Once again, Kimmel came to Biden’s defense by reminding President Trump who stared into an eclipse.

So with less than three weeks until the election, President Trump will continue to hold rallies and continue to attack Vice President Biden no matter how hypocritical any of it is. And Jimmy Kimmel will continue to imagine a Biden victory and keep the president in check.
