The Late Show with Stephen Colbert has audio from Donald Trump’s sister

This week was supposed to be an all-out lovefest for the president with the start of the Republican National Convention. Instead, leaked audio from President Donald Trump’s sister proved that another member of the family isn’t exactly a fan.

In secretly recorded audio acquired by The Washington Post, President Trump’s sister Maryanne Trump Barry delivered a scathing review of her brother’s character. She described him as having “no principles” and that he can’t be trusted. She went on to make it clear that he was unfit to be president of the United States.

The audio comes from President Trump’s niece Mary Trump. This is the same niece who recently published the book Too Much and Never Enough: How My Family Created the World’s Most Dangerous Man. Fans of The Late Show with Stephen Colbert will recall that Mary Trump appeared on the show and attempted to diagnose her uncle’s psychological state.

The Late Show also knows how much President Trump cares about his public image. Having his name dragged through the mud is something Donald Trump cannot stand. So Stephen Colbert and his writers imagined how the president could try to control the narrative created by his sister using leaked audio:

The Late Show’s idea of President Donald Trump’s sister isn’t too farfetched

It will be interesting to see how, if at all, President Donald Trump reacts to the leaked audio from his sister. The last thing he needs right now is to engage in a public family feud. But President Trump’s sister has made that a very real possibility.

President Trump coming to his own rescue may seem like a bit created by The Late Show. After all, the president does have a long history of playing fast and loose with reality. But the idea of “Donna Trump” is a joke with some truth behind it.

Some people may know of Donald Trump’s alter ego “John Barron.” It was a name reportedly used by the then real estate mogul to act as a publicist for himself, feeding information and exaggerations to reporters.

Then there are all the times that President Trump has told a “sir” story or claimed that foreign leaders and others had something flattering to say about him. If the president is willing to go to these lengths to protect his image, is The Late Show‘s “Donna Trump” really that far off?
