The Daily Show answers Fox News question if anyone can read from a teleprompter

After Democratic presidential nominee Joe Biden delivered his speech to close out the Democratic National Convention, the reviews were predictably split. His supporters called it career-defining and inspirational while critics like those on Fox News sarcastically applauded him for reading from a teleprompter. But as The Daily Show found out, reading from a teleprompter is easier said than done.

President Trump and his allies at Fox News have set the bar pretty low for former Vice President Joe Biden. They’ve suggested he’s in a state of mental decline that makes him unfit for office. The president has gone so far as to challenge Vice PresidentBiden to the “person, woman, man, camera, TV” cognitive test.

So when Vice President Biden delivered his speech clearly and competently, it shattered the already weak argument against him. Then it came time for the goalposts to shift and the argument changed to “any idiot can read from a teleprompter.”

The Daily Show with Trevor Noah decided to put that premise to the test. With some help from Fox News, the late-night show put together this highlight package to see how challenging a teleprompter can be for even the most stable of geniuses.

The Daily Show continues to attack President Trump on reading and speaking

Anyone speaking publicly as often as the president of the United States is going to make mistakes. It would be impossible for anyone to flawlessly read every single word out loud. So by no means is The Daily Show expecting perfection from President Trump. What it does expect is consistency.

If President Trump wants to criticize Vice President Biden over reading a teleprompter, he has to have a better record than the one he does. The Daily Show holds the same standards for Fox News, pointing out the network’s hypocrisy once again.

It is odd that Fox News would praise President Trump for speaking without a teleprompter. It is in those instances where he gets himself into the most trouble by either spreading misinformation, conspiracy theories, or demonstrating a lack of knowledge on a particular subject.

This is the latest example of how The Daily Show has relentlessly mocked President Trump for “having the best words”  or struggling to read at the podium. More and more, the Comedy Central show has been turning to Fox News for help making its point.

Now that Vice President Biden has demonstrated he can read from a teleprompter, we’ll have to see what the next narrative Fox News rolls out against the Democratic nominee. There’s a good chance is something President Trump is also guilty of doing and an even better chance The Daily Show will respond.
