Stephen Colbert riding high after Obama and night three of the DNC

Stephen Colbert’s monologue recapped night three of the Democratic National Convention
Night three of the 2020 Democratic National Convention brought out some of the biggest names the party has to offer. After those like former President Barack Obama and Senator Kamala Harris addressed the nation, Stephen Colbert was raring and ready to go on a live Late Show.
The Late Show with Stephen Colbert has been the go-to spot for Democratic National Convention coverage. Night one was all about the renewed sense of hope Colbert felt as the event kicked off. He followed that up by showing former President Bill Clinton, Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, and other Democrats were not immune from his monologue jokes.
Wednesday night, the DNC featured perhaps the two most anticipated speakers: former President Barack Obama and vice presidential nominee Kamala Harris. It’s not often that the presidential nominee is overshadowed but Sen. Harris was making history and President Obama knows how to capture an audience.
You can count Stephen Colbert among those who were hanging on President Obama’s every word. The comedian recapped the night in his typical entertaining fashion last night on The Late Show.
Stephen Colbert continued to take jabs at Democrats while they did the same to Trump
If any Late Show fans expected Stephen Colbert to take it easy on Democrats, then they don’t know the comedian all that well. He’s made it clear that he’s ready and willing to make fun of anyone who speaks into a microphone.
On Wednesday night, that included former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, Vice President Joe Biden, and Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi. Colbert even got in an extra joke at AOC’s expense, teasing that he got more airtime at the Democratic National Convention than she did.
The Democrats also took a page out of Colbert’s book by taking a shot at President Donald Trump every chance they could. As someone who appreciates a good knock on the president, Colbert certainly approved of the message during night three of the DNC.
But nothing got Colbert more excited or feeling more optimistic than the appearance of President Obama. It reminded the Late Show host of simpler times when presidents weren’t watching his shows and his monologues didn’t have to be public service announcements.
Based on how he reacted to Sen. Kamala Harris’ speech, Colbert may not be too far from a return to those days. The Democratic National Convention has given the comedian a new sense of hope and the promise of better days ahead. Just don’t expect Colbert to leave the jokes behind, too.
