The Late Show with Stephen Colbert was live after the Democratic National Convention

On Monday night, Stephen Colbert said his job was to make fun of anyone who speaks in public. The Late Show host got a chance to show why he’s one of the best at his job on Tuesday after night two of the Democratic National Convention.

Colbert’s coverage of the DNC’s opening night was a little tame. The comedian discussed how the event left him feeling hopeful for the first time in a long time and perhaps even looking forward to the coming election. Colbert also admitted that he failed at his job when he couldn’t bring himself to tease or mock former First Lady Michelle Obama.

But Colbert got back to work on Tuesday night. The DNC’s virtual event featured some of the party’s most well-known figures. They quickly became targets for Colbert’s monologue, delivered live after the DNC wrapped up its second night.

Whether it was former Vice President Joe Biden, former President Bill Clinton, Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, nobody who appeared on camera was getting a free pass from Colbert. And as always, The Late Show saved some of its best material for President Donald Trump.

Stephen Colbert wasn’t afraid to go after friends of The Late Show

The Late Show with Stephen Colbert has welcomed more guests from the world of politics than just about any other late-night television show. Individuals from both ends of the political spectrum have been interviewed, though liberals may be a bit more open to going one-on-one with Colbert especially with his audience in the mix.

Some of those Late Show guests were front and center at the Democratic National Convention on Tuesday night. But it didn’t spare them from Colbert’s joke as the comedian proved he won’t go easy on Democrats or friends of the show.

For example, former President Bill Clinton has been on The Late Show multiple times. Nobody in Colbert’s monologue got it worse than President Clinton, who Colbert suggested shouldn’t be giving out advice on what to do in the Oval Office.

Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez has quickly become a star in the Democratic Party and a fan-favorite on The Late Show. Here, Colbert gives her the award show treatment after AOC was given 90 seconds to speak at the Party’s biggest event.

And of course, there is Vice President Biden. He’s stopped by The Late Show more than once but Colbert has too fun with his impression to let up. Will a potential President Biden be as mocked as President Trump on The Late Show? Absolutely not. But Colbert knows Joe Biden wasn’t the Democrats’ ideal candidate and knows that there is plenty of material there for his monologues.
