Season three of Conan O’Brien Needs a Friend is arriving sooner than expected

Nobody in late-night television gives the people what they want like Team Coco. So it’s no surprise that season three of “Conan O’Brien Needs a Friend” will return ahead of schedule.

Acknowledging the crazy times that we are in, O’Brien announced the first episode of season three is coming this Monday, August 3. “Conan O’Brien Needs a Friend” was originally set to return in Sept. but Team Coco is giving fans what they want.

The first episode will feature stand-up comedian and television host W. Kamau Bell. Bell was recently a guest on Conan where he discussed the Black Lives Matter movement and how more people can become involved in its mission. Fans can expect that conversation to continue on “Conan O’Brien Needs a Friend.”

Starting the new season now instead of waiting is another example of how so much of what O’Brien and Team Coco does is with the fanbase in mind. As long as quarantine and social distancing protocols are in place, the need for entertainment and a distraction will be there. O’Brien, co-host Sona Movsesian, and producer Matt Gourley have been a source of such joy for listeners, helping make the show one of the most popular podcasts in the world.

Conan O’Brien hasn’t really stopped since his podcast began

“Conan O’Brien Needs a Friend” began in Nov. 2018 and it hasn’t really slowed down at all since then. While the podcast may have seasons, there has been virtually no break when it comes to new content.

Season one featured 36 episodes that ran through the end of July 2019. That was followed up by six episodes of “Deep Dive with Dana Carvey” that carried through to Sept. 2019. Then in Oct. it was time for season two of “Conan O’Brien Needs a Friend” to start. Another 30+ episodes took fans to June 2020. Since then, we’ve been given six episodes of “Summer S’mores with Conan and the Chill Chums” featuring O’Brien, Movsesian, and Gourley talking among themselves. An episode with Tom Hanks was thrown in for good measure as the podcast trio worked through July.

And now, rather than take August off or continue with abbreviated episodes, the “Conan O’Brien Needs a Friend” team is ready to get to work on season three. Once again, we have proof that Conan O’Brien can’t stop.
