Conan O’Brien and Dana Carvey launched a miniseries of podcasts that is pure silliness.

It is safe to say that Conan O’Brien’s podcast career is off to a much faster start than his late night career. It helps to have a 25 year head start on building a fan base and finding a comedic voice. It also helps when you can call in Dana Carvey as a partner.

O’Brien’s rocky start to hosting Late Night with Conan O’Brien is well documented. It is ancient history now as O’Brien is the longest-tenured late night host still active and still has the most unique show on the air.

That career development certainly helped with the launch of “Conan O’Brien Needs a Friend.” The podcast, unlike Late Night, was an instant hit and consistently delivered one of the best comedy podcasts around.

Season one of the podcast recently came to an end when O’Brien sat down with comedy legend Julia Louis-Dreyfus. But the end of the season is the end of new episodes for O’Brien’s podcast. To cover the time until season two launches, Team Coco will release “Deep Dives.” The shorter podcasts will all feature O’Brien and former Saturday Night Live performer Dana Carvey.

The first episode was released this week and it quickly went off the rails in the best possible way. Fans of Carvey will definitely want to listen to this one.

Any appearance by Carvey on Conan or any other late night show always feels too short. Even the Jan. episode of “Conan O’Brien Needs a Friend” with Carvey felt too short. So “Deep Dive” address that problem by giving fans more Carvey and Conan.

The podcast is more of the pure silliness and absurdity fans probably expected from O’Brien when he launched the podcast. While plenty of that was present week in and week out, the podcast also covered some serious issues like anxiety, stress, and relationships.

If episode one is any indication, the six part miniseries will be heavier on the comedy. It is obvious that O’Brien finds Carvey absolutely hilarious. We haven’t really heard the late night comedian laugh like this but fans surely will want more.

Chances are you’ve heard Carvey’s Beatles impressions before but in episode one, he gets to play with O’Brien, who in turns shows off his improv skills. “Predator Island” is also a funny idea that sounds like a Saturday Night Live sketch but still translates well on a two-man podcast.

The two will probably also discuss their friendship and time together at Saturday Night Live. Still, knowing how many impressions and voices Carvey can do and how much O’Brien wants to inject humor in to everything, things are bound to get strange.

“Deep Dive with Dana Carvey” will be released every Monday for the next five weeks. Following that, we should be ready to start season two of “Conan O’Brien Needs a Friend.”
