Seth Meyers asked Kayleigh McEnany the questions he wishes the press would ask

Whether it is President Donald Trump himself, a member of his cabinet, or his press secretary, a press conference from the current administration is almost guaranteed to end up in a Late Night with Seth Meyers bit. White House Press Secretary Kayleigh McEnany has ensured this trend will continue.

The role of White House press secretary has been a revolving door since Donald Trump took office. It started with Sean Spicer who served just over 180 days before moving on to bigger and better things (read: Dancing With the Stars). He was replaced by Sarah Huckabee Sanders who developed a contentious relationship with reporters during her nearly two-year-long tenure.

Sanders was replaced with Stephanie Grisham. If that name doesn’t sound quite as familiar as Spicer or Sanders, it could be because Grisham was the first White House Press Secretary to never hold a formal press briefing. Since April, the position has been held by Kayleigh McEnany who vowed to never lie to reporters.

Typical of the current administration, that pledge didn’t last long. McEnany has given multiple false and misleading statements while also avoiding many questions the public wants answered. So to rectify the situation, Seth Meyers decided to imagine a world in which McEnany is forced to answer the burning questions on everyone’s mind.

Seth Meyers and other late night hosts have zeroed in on Kayleigh McEnany

Trying to get an explanation for the actions of the Trump administration is no easy task. The press briefings are the only chance to ask specific questions in the hopes of getting specific answers. However, as Seth Meyers demonstrated, only making up ridiculous questions after the fact results in any worthwhile answers.

McEnany has quickly established herself as a force to be reckoned with at the podium. Whether that is a force for good or bad depends on your political perspective. But Meyers and other late night hosts have determined that while McEnany may be bad for the country, she is good for comedy.

Like Spicer and Sanders before her, McEnany is now one of the faces of the Trump administration. That makes her a major target for late night television shows. The Late Show with Stephen Colbert has tried to make sense of McEnany’s spin, Jimmy Kimmel has mocked hr efforts to defend President Trump, and The Daily Show has fact-checked her on the novel coronavirus.

Despite all this attention from comedians, McEnany hasn’t shown any signs of slowing down or backing off. Again, if you were to ask Seth Meyers he’d probably say that is a bad thing for the country but a good thing for Late Night.
