Late night TV guest to watch: Mary Trump

On Wednesday, July 22, it may well be the last time a Trump speaks face-to-face with Stephen Colbert. Mary Trump will be the lead guest on The Late Show.

Mary, the niece of President Donald Trump, is out promoting her book Too Much and Never Enough: How My Family Created the World’s Most Dangerous Man. It details the dynamic inside the Trump family, specifically the relationship between President Trump and his father Fred Trump.

The book got extra publicity when President Trump attempted to block its publication. His failure to do so helped Too Much and Never Enough sell 950,000 copies during its first day on the shelf and set a record for publisher Simon and Schuster.

Mary Trump’s Late Show interview comes not long after John Bolton did the same to promote his book on President Trump, The Room Where It Happened. Colbert was applauded for his interview of Bolton so there is no reason to think he won’t do the same with Trump. It won’t be as contentious as Colbert doesn’t have the moral high ground that he had over Bolton.

Instead, Trump should expand on some of the details from her book. Expect Colbert to be interested in her diagnosis of President Trump as a clinical psychologist and what if anything can be done moving forward to curb some of the president’s impulses.
