Late night TV: Comedians take over this week

Late night television features a whole lot of comedians as guests this week

If you’re in need of an especially good laugh this week, then late night television will have exactly what you need. Shows across the board are stacked with comedians as guests every night of the week.

It comes after most of late night television took last week off. Only Jimmy Kimmel LIve! and Conan had new episodes. Still, they brought plenty of entertainment through monologues and celebrity interviews.

But now with The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy FallonThe Late Show with Stephen Colbert, and others returning, fans have more options and more content to watch. One thing that is for sure is that every night at least one show will boast a hilarious comedian as a guest.

No where will that be the case more than Jimmy Kimmel Live! as it continues to showcase guest hosts. Keep reading for a full breakdown of late night shows featuring comedians this week.

Jimmy Kimmel Live!

Following successful turns by Anthony Anderson and Billy Eichner last week, Jimmy Kimmel Live! looks to keep the guest host momentum going this week. First up is stand-up comedian Iliza Shlesinger.

Shlesinger has been performing since 2007. She has released five Netflix specials and her own sketch show The Iliza Shlesinger Sketch Show. The accomplished comedian will host Kimmel on Monday, July 13.

Another comedian takes over hosting duties on Tuesday, July 14. Whitney Cummings will run the show. Her most recent special Can I Touch It? premiered on Netflix in 2019.

Cummings will get an assist from Eric Andre as her first guest on Tuesday night. Andre released his Netflix special Legalize Everything on June 23.

Jimmy Kimmel Live! finishes up the week with back-to-back episodes hosted by stand-up Sebastian Maniscalco starting Wednesday, July 15. His last comedy special Stay Hungry came out in 2019.

The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon

The Tonight Show gets in on the act starting on Tuesday, July 14. Jimmy Fallon will interview Saturday Night Live writer/cast member/”Weekend Update” anchor Colin Jost. Jost is out promoting his new memoir A Very Punchable Face.

Expect even more laughs on Thursday, July 15. Jim Carrey, also out to plug a book, chats with Fallon. Carrey released the novel Memoirs and Misinformation on July 7.

Also appearing on Thursday’s Tonight Show will be Jenny Slate. The former Saturday Night Live cast member stars in the upcoming film The Sunlit Night set to be released on July 17.

The Late Show with Stephen Colbert

The number on show in late night returns this week. The Late Show with Stephen Colbert will certainly have a lot to say about the news both this week and from its week off.

But during all that, fans won’t want to miss the show on Wednesday, July 17. Ricky Gervais returns as a guest and is all but guaranteed to deliver another must-see conversation with Colbert.

Also on Wednesday’s Late Show will be W. Kamau Bell. The stand-up, television host, and podcast host will certainly deliver another entertaining and insightful conversation with Stephen Colbert. The fifth season of Bell’s CNN show United Shades of America is set to debut on July 19.

Late Night with Seth Meyers

Seth Meyers reconnects with his Saturday Night Live buddy Andy Samberg on Monday, July 13. Samberg is promoting his new Hulu movie Palm Springs.

The comedians keep coming on Tuesday when Meyers interviews Paul Scheer. Scheer can currently be seen in season two of the Showtime series Black Monday starring Don Cheadle and Regina King.

As if that wasn’t enough, Late Night welcomes a legend to close out the week. Fans can see the always hilarious Martin Short chat with Meyers on Thursday, July 16.

Conan

Conan O’Brien returns with another week of shows from the Largo theater in Los Angeles. To help kickstart another week of shows, O’Brien will interview actress and comedian Lauren Lapkus.

Lapkus starred alongside David Spade in the Netflix movie The Wrong Missy that was released in May. She can now be heard co-hosting the podcast “Newcomers: Star Wars” with Nicole Byers.
