Lisa Kudrow talked to Conan O’Brien about the upcoming Friends reunion

Like the rest of the entertainment industry, HBO Max’s Friends reunion was put on hold during the pandemic. But with lockdown and quarantine guidelines slowly being pulled back, many are wondering when production will finally get started. Lisa Kudrow offered an update during an interview with Conan O’Brien.

It was announced that Kudrow would join co-stars Jennifer Aniston, Courteney Cox, Matt LeBlanc, Matthew Perry, and David Schwimmer for a brand new Friends special. Fans have been praying, asking, begging, and demanding for a reunion since the day the sitcom left NBC in 2004.

That wish finally came true in Feb. with the announcement of an unscripted special featuring the cast and creators. It was set to film in March and debut on HBO Max when the streaming service debuted in May. But the COVID-19 pandemic changed all that and fans have been trying to find out any updates they can since then.

An answer came on Wednesday night’s episode of Conan. Lisa Kudrow connected with Conan O’Brien and provided what should be good news for Friends fans.

A Friends reunion on Zoom would be better than nothing

According to Kudrow, the Friends reunion is tentatively scheduled to film next month. If that is the case, it wouldn’t be a shock to see HBO Max get it on the streaming service as soon as possible. The entertainment industry’s hiatus has made it difficult for networks and streaming services to promote any new content so a restart on the Friends reunion is a win-win for everyone.

But if the pandemic continues to restrict group gatherings and halt production, Conan O’Brien has a suggestion. The cast of Friends could always reunite via Zoom just like the rest of the world is staying connected. Getting the fanbase on board would be another issue but the potential for comedy is too much for Kudrow and O’Brien to resist.

It wouldn’t be so far out of the box for Friends to go that route. It worked for Parks and Recreation earlier this year and 30 Rock is set to do the same. But at the same time, Friends fans have waited 16 years for a reunion. So what is a couple of months longer to ensure everyone’s health and safety?

In the meantime, comedy fans can continue to rely on Conan O’Brien when it comes to HBO Max content. The late night television host and the rest of Team Coco play a large part in the platform’s comedy offerings so there is plenty to keep you entertained as you wait for the Friends reunion.
