Seth Meyers proves the impeachment evidence is overwhelming
By Matt Moore
In “A Closer Look,” Seth Meyers looked at more testimony in the impeachment hearings and covered the conviction of Roger Stone.
Stop us if you’ve heard this before but Seth Meyers is calling the end of Donald Trump’s presidency. Yes, for years now Meyers has been looking at all the evidence and reasons why President Trump should be removed from office. No, it hasn’t happened yet. But as Meyers laid out in “A Closer Look,” the evidence for impeachment is now overwhelming thanks to public testimony.
Late Night with Seth Meyers has tried to showcase every possible reason why President Trump is unfit for office. The show has questioned his competence and intelligence, argued that he enriches himself while in office, and believed that the Mueller investigation offered enough evidence to warrant impeachment.
Yet none of that has had the same impact as the Ukraine scandal. President Trump’s phone call allegedly offering military assistance in exchange for an investigation into the Bidens kicked off an impeachment inquiry. That inquiry has now brought televised public hearings where career diplomats have indicated some shady business was going on all along.
On Monday night’s edition of “A Closer Look” Meyers called the evidence against President Trump overwhelming. He also covered the conviction of the President’s friend and associate Roger Stone. Added all together, it looks like we are getting closer to the conclusion Meyers has predicted for years.
Anyone looking to argue with Meyers about the evidence only needs to hear the comedian’s opening statement. “Only” six of President Trump’s associates have been convicted of crimes related to his campaign and inauguration. Meyers explains the situation with Roger Stone before even mentioning the testimony of former United States Ambassador to Ukraine Marie Yovanovitch–testimony that was interrupted by President Trump live tweeting it.
No edition of “A Closer Look” these days is complete without mention of Rudy Giuliani. The former New York City mayor and President Trump’s personal lawyer has become the most frequent target of Late Night other than the President. Meyers has looked at Giuliani’s arrested associates and now reminds viewers that Giuliani led a smear campaign against Ambassador Yovanovitch.
The 6:40 mark of this video is where Meyers lays out all the evidence we’ve seen so far. Almost all of it is undeniable and tallied up, is overwhelming. It’s more than enough for Meyers to be convinced that President Trump’s days in the White House are numbered. Or at least they should be but Meyers is also well aware of Republican support for the President.
Seth Meyers also knows that defending President Donald Trump is getting harder and harder by the day. The evidence supporting impeachment is mounting and Late Night will continue to take a closer look at everything.
