Is Real Time with Bill Maher new tonight, Sept. 6?
By Matt Moore
Should fans expect a new episode of Real Time with Bill Maher on HBO tonight?
We’ve come to the end of a strange and at time absurd week. A few major stories dominated the news and found their way into late night coverage as well. Sounds like the perfect week for Real Time with Bill Maher.
The biggest story of the week seems to have been President Donald Trump’s handling of Hurricane Dorian. Late night has been looking at everything from Trump’s tweet about the storm hitting Alabama to that suspiciously doctored map Trump put on display to support his claim.
On top of all that, we still have Democratic candidates for president on the campaign trail, more Brexit trouble brewing in Great Britain, and personnel changes in the White House. As usual, there is no shortage of topics to talk about this week.
So should fans expect to see a new episode of Real Time with Bill Maher tonight? Or is it one more summer break for the HBO show?
We have good news this week: there will be a brand new episode of Real TIme. Keep reading for a breakdown of tonight’s guests.
Top-of-show interview
Making her Real Time with Bill Maher debut as the top-of-show interview guest will be Christina Hoff Sommers. The author and philosopher, who focuses on ethics, should make for a very interesting guest.
Sommers is a resident scholar at the American Enterprise Institute and also hosts the video blog “The Factual Feminist.” It’s not hard to see why Maher would invite her on Real Time or what she can bring to the table in a discussion.
Mid-show interview
The mid-show interview will feature another first time guest. Politician and radio host Joe Walsh will be on the show.
Walsh, a Republican, served one term in the House of Representatives. He represented Illinois’ eighth district from 2011-2013. After leaving Congress, he became a radio host and made a number of television appearances.
Walsh is also no stranger to controversy. He has been criticized for a range of remarks he has made on radio and on social media.
Recently, Walsh has attempted to make amends for those comments. It comes after announcing his plan to challenge President Donald Trump for the Republican nomination in 2020. Expect Maher to press Walsh on how he plans to do this and whether such a goal is even feasible given Trump’s base and control over the Republican Party.
The panel
As always, the panel will bring a diverse set of ideas to the discussion. It features two returning guests and one first time visitor to Real Time with Bill Maher.
Maria Teresa Kumar is a political activist and president of the Latino political organization Voto Latino. The organization has worked to register Latino voters and advocate issues important to the community.
Former Representative and 2020 presidential candidate John Delaney will make his Real Time debut. Delaney may not be making much noise amid his fellow Democratic nominees but that shouldn’t stop Maher from treating him like a legitimate contender.
Blogger, journalist, and pundit Matt Welch rounds out the panel. Welch has been particularly keeping an eye on the hurricane-Sharpie debacle from Trump and will no doubt have something to say.
Real Time with Bill Maher airs tonight, Sept. 6, at 10:00 PM ET on HBO. Send in your questions and follow along on Twitter to become part of the show. Then keep checking Last Night On for more news and updates.
