Seth Meyers tried to look at why President Donald Trump continues to lie about Hurricane Dorian impacting Alabama.

There have been a number of stories about President Donald Trump that merit multiple days of coverage in late night. But the predicted track of a hurricane doesn’t sound like one of those stories. But as Seth Meyers explained, Trump himself has made sure that is the case.

Late night has been all over the Hurricane Dorian story from the start. The Late Show with Stephen Colbert noted that Trump’s tweets on the storm weren’t very big on accuracyJimmy Kimmel Live! picked things up from there after Trump doubled down using a doctored map of the storm to include Alabama.

President Trump seems unwilling to let things going, continuing to tweet on Thursday and sharing more maps to support his initial tweet. He has ensured that the story remains in the news and that he remains open to criticism as the storm hits South Carolina and North Carolina.

A Trump story that stretches over multiple days usually is a very good candidate for “A Closer Look” on Late Night with Seth Meyers. On Thursday night, Meyers followed Kimmel’s lead and explored Trump’s defense of that altered map.

Seth Meyers has spent many “A Closer Look” segments on what he calls President Trump’s lies. Meyers can typically make a pretty good case for his claims because the Late Night staff always manages to find the perfect clip of Trump contradicting himself or making an outlandish statement.

Another one of those clips gets showcased here. Meyers shows Trump’s attempt at explaining the edited map by ignoring the real question and instead focusing on maps and forecasts that were days old. Meyers uses this to demonstrate just how far Trump will go to avoid being wrong or having to admit to his mistakes.

Seth Meyers sums up the entire situation by saying that “Trump is the hurricane.” The National Weather Service has to monitor him because every day he “blows harder.” It’s a good metaphor considering the way the story keeps building and widening the impact area. Someone just needs to come up with a comparison for Trump’s idea that hurricanes can be stopped via a nuclear bomb. We’ll leave that to the Emmy nominated team at Late Night with Seth Meyers.
