Jimmy Kimmel said that President Donald Trump thinks Americans are idiots after refusing to admit to a mistake.

“This is a crazy story” has been longtime setup for late night hosts. During the Trump era, it has been used more than ever. Jimmy Kimmel knows this but still couldn’t think of a better way to introduce the latest head-scratching moment from President Trump.

The President earned himself a lot of attention for his barrage of tweets on Hurricane Dorian. Trump warned that Alabama would be among the states impacted only to have that refuted by the National Weather Service.

The correction, along with Trump’s comments on the apparent rarity of category five hurricanes, was a popular topic for news programs, social media, and even late night shows. Despite it all, President Trump refused to admit his error and instead claimed he was referencing a previous weather model that included Alabama as a potential area of impact.

Not many people bought that excuse or accepted it as a reasonable response. So President Trump took things one step further. For Jimmy Kimmel, that was one step too far.

Kimmel points out the additional circle that appears to be hand-drawn on to the map forecasting Dorian’s path. It is an absolutely absurd visual and something that seems more at home in a Saturday Night Live sketch or an episode of Veep.

Kimmel suggests that Trump isn’t even trying to hide his lies anymore. Hopefully that is the case because the alternative would mean the President didn’t think anyone would notice. Late night has been working to expose Trump’s lies since the beginning but it looks as if Trump is doing that for them now.

The Daily Show is going live after the Democratic debate. light. Related Story

It will be interesting to see if President Trump triples down on his Alabama-Hurricane Dorian claim. The story was likely to go away before he introduced his Sharpie-altered map but he has only opened himself up to more criticism from Jimmy Kimmel and others. Stay tuned.
