Stephen Colbert recapped President Donald Trump’s speech to a group of young conservatives that once again targeted four congresswomen.

President Donald Trump can’t stop talking about “the Squad.” The group of congresswomen including Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, Rashida Tlaib, Ilhan Omar, and Ayanna Pressley have become a focal point of the president’s speeches and tweets. Stephen Colbert examined the latest example in which Trump’s newest obsession was on display.

The “Trump vs. the Squad” story has been in the news ever since the president’s racially charged tweets went public. Since then, he has doubled-down on his suggestion that those upset with the country’s direction should leave. Republicans have come to his defense, leading to more coverage from the media and late night shows.

The president has been called racist even more than usual for his attacks but that hasn’t discouraged him from bringing up the Squad whenever he gets the chance. That was clear during his speech to a group of young conservatives.

Anytime President Trump stands in front of a microphone, Stephen Colbert pays attention. Trump’s unscripted remarks often write Colbert’s Late Show monologues for him and the address to a room of teenage conservatives was no different.

At this point in Trump’s presidency, Stephen Colbert is willing to do or saying anything if it means there is a chance to get a change in the White House. So if Trump is offering to “hang it up” if he gets a good story, Colbert is willing to publish whatever it takes to get an early retirement out of the president.

But Trump isn’t helping his case to get good publicity by attacking the four congresswomen of color according to Colbert. By mentioning a member of the Squad, Trump gets an angry reaction from his young supporters. Despite Colbert drawing the parallels, however, it never reaches “send her back” levels of chanting.

Colbert then previews Robert Mueller’s testimony and the obvious attempts by the president to discredit it all via Twitter. No Late Show monologue is complete these days without Colbert reading a Trump tweet. Toss in an insult against Bill Barr and it’s another day at the office for Colbert.

The only thing that may distract President Donald Trump from the Squad may be Robert Mueller’s testimony. Fans can be sure that Stephen Colbert will be paying close attention not only to what Mueller says but how Trump reacts.
