It has been an unpredictable week but so too has been Saturday Night Live’s schedule this season

There is a good chance that you read this week’s headlines and watched the news thinking that it all sounded made up. That things couldn’t really be this ridiculous or unbelievable. It all seemed like things out of Saturday Night Live.

From President Trump’s visit to Vietnam to Michael Cohen’s testimony in front of Congress, it was another week of “firsts.” While these moments should be taken very seriously from a political perspective, they also can provide some of the best comedy for our favorite television shows.

Millions of loyal fans turn to Saturday Night Live at the end of a long week like this one. The problem is when the show is on a break or hiatus during a major news week. Typically a holiday can give us a hint of when to expect SNL to be off. But season 44 has had more than one instance of an unpredictable week without a new episode.

Just last week the show did not provide a new show. And with other popular shows like The Late Show with Stephen Colbert and  Real Time with Bill Maher off this week, it’s very possible that Saturday Night Live would plan to take a little more time off before rounding out the season.

But don’t worry fans. SNL will not let us down this week. Yes, there will be a brand new episode tonight. Hosted by John Mulaney and featuring musical guest Thomas Rhett, it should be the best episode of the season.
