Late Night with Seth Meyers went through President Trump’s tweets and examined how Paul Manafort was caught in a lie.

The latest chapter in the Russia investigation was revealed on Wednesday. Former Trump campaign manager Paul Manafort was found to have lied to investigators and the FBI. Why he would choose to lie while already under investigation was question Seth Meyers thought deserved a closer look.

It seems like every other day there is some story that is worthy of “A Closer Look” on Late Night. The segments have become a signature of Seth Meyers and routinely are the clips that get the most traction online. It is understandable why as Meyers has mastered the ability to break down complex, detailed stories into a quickly digestible format surrounded by jokes influenced by his sense of humor.

So when news broke about Manafort losing his plea deal as a result of lies he told investigators, you knew that Meyers would be taking a deep dive on the story. But like the other segments, this one covered a couple other topics. Most notably was Meyers shifting through all of President Trump’s tweets on “collusion delusion,” or the idea that no ties between his campaign and Russia had been uncovered.

Meyers is spot on about how Trump’s tweets go over these days. People seem generally numb to what the president writes on his account. Yes, late night hosts and others will still use a misspelling to crack a joke. But gone are the days when every claim or all-caps rant is reported and analyzed.

On Manafort, Meyers mentions the several other individuals connected to Trump that have been indicted or found to have lied about their relationships with Russia. Despite these numerous investigations, President Trump is still claiming “collusion delusion” is the cause for it all.

Meyers’ advice seems to be to treat Trump’s public statements the same way his tweets are being treated. Ignore the denials and accusations made by the president and instead just wait until Robert Mueller’s investigation has concluded.

It is hard to tell when exactly that investigation will be over. If you listen to one side, it’s basically all wrapped up and there is nothing else to see. Other sides will say that every new development is just the “tip of the iceberg.” No matter what happens next, you can be sure that Seth Meyers and the rest of Late Night will be ready to take a look at it and let the jokes keep coming.
