Seth Meyers is keeping the blame on President Donald Trump as the government shutdown continues.

The government shutdown has now been going on for 26 days. Both sides are quick to point to the other as causing delays in resolving the issue. From the outside, however, Seth Meyers is convinced the shutdown was created and continued by President Donald Trump.

It’s hard not to lay responsibility for the shutdown at Trump’s feet considering he said as much during his heated discussion with Nancy Pelosi and Chuck Schumer. That Oval Office blowup provided plenty of material for late night hosts. So it makes sense that Meyers and others haven’t forgotten Trump’s words.

Yet for all the criticism, insults, and unflattering comparisons made by late night hosts, Seth Meyers most recent “A Closer Look” segment may hit Trump the hardest. There are plenty examples indicating that nothing is worse in Trump’s world than a loser. He’s called out “losers and haters” online and described people like Bill Maher, Jeb Bush, and John McCain as losers.

So chances are that President Trump is doing everything he can to distance himself from blame for the government shutdown. And if he gives in and doesn’t fulfill his promises, then he’d be admitting that he lost and therefore is a loser. Seth Meyers doesn’t see any way Trump can avoid this outcome:

Yes, most of Meyers bit compares Trump to a grandpa who has finally lost it. But that probably wouldn’t bother Trump as much as being seen as a loser would hurt. Polls don’t necessarily matter to him either because he can dismiss the source. The only way he’ll really know that he has lost on this issue is if Fox News says it.

Meyers has some fun with the clip of Trump saying he doesn’t want to be considered a politician. That may be part of the problem. Trump is willing to keep the government shutdown going until he gets his way rather than understand the need to compromise. For him, a compromise is calling the wall something else like “peaches.”

Hopefully some sort of resolution is reached soon. Too many people are going with out pay and the longer the shutdown goes on, the more people will be affected. It seems like neither side wants to be considered the loser here so a solution could be as likely as calling a border wall a wangdoodle.
