Is Saturday Night Live new tonight, Feb. 2?
By Matt Moore
Saturday Night Live has been on a hot streak with its latest episodes but will that trend continue tonight?
2019 has been off to a great start for Saturday Night Live. The show continued the momentum from a fantastic Christmas episode hosted by Matt Damon through its holiday break and onto the other side with the first two episodes of the new year.
First we had The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel star Rachel Brosnahan kick things off in an impressive SNL debut for the actress. The show came right back the next week with another great episode, this time hosted by Glass actor James McAvoy.
What stood out most in those two episodes was the variety of the sketches. Beyond the cold opens and Weekend Update segments, we didn’t see a heavy reliance on political sketches. That could have been a decision based on several factors. The show could be trying to avoid exhausting viewers on Trump take downs. Or it could be that the writers were more comfortable giving different material to talented actors like Brosnahan and McAvoy.
Regardless, Saturday Night Live seems to be finding some traction in the second half of season 44. Ratings remain consistent and fans continue to be some of the most dedicated and engaged in all of television.
So will Saturday Night Live look to build on that momentum tonight? Unfortunately, we’ll have to keep waiting. There will be no new episode of SNL tonight.
If you still need your SNL fix this weekend, then Last Night On has some recommendations. You can check out the show’s best Super Bowl sketches. Or you can get a good laugh out of Donald Trump, Jr. being mocked for thinking it’s “S&L.”
Saturday Night Live will return with a new episode on Feb. 9. The host and musical guest will be Halsey. Check back in with Last Night On for a preview of that episode and then for a break down of all the best sketches from that night’s show.
