While Democrats and Republicans try to find a solution to the government shutdown, Stephen Colbert called it on ongoing losing streak for Trump.

The government shutdown continues and its effects are starting to build. Hundreds of thousands of federal employees are without pay. Their inability to perform their jobs affect the public’s daily lives more and more. The entire debacle amounts to one giant loss for President Donald Trump according to Stephen Colbert.

Late night hosts may have uncovered the secret to getting even further under the president’s skin. It’s clear that no show on late night has a favorable view of President Trump and he knows that. But it’s easy for him to dismiss the hosts as low-talent or looking to save their low ratings.

But calling Donald Trump a “loser?” That may be too much for the president to ignore. It has been well documented that “loser” is a go-to insult of President Trump dating back well before his political years.

Late Night with Seth Meyers recently hammered the president as a loser for his role in the government shutdown and efforts to build a border wall. Now The Late Show with Stephen Colbert is jumping on the “loser” train.

Colbert says that more support for the Democrats’ plan to reopen the government over Trump’s plan signifies a loss for the president. It’s not much consolation considering both plans were rejected but it’s also not a good sign for a president who promised so much “winning.”

The Late Show host also sees this as a second consecutive loss following the State of the Union controversy. Colbert already gave us a rundown of the back-and-forth between Trump and Nancy Pelosi that ultimately resulted in a cancelled speech by Trump at the House Chamber.

It sounds like the blame on President Trump will only grow as the shutdown continues. This is understandable considering Trump promised it wouldn’t blame Democrats or anyone else. But if the president keeps getting labeled a “loser” by the likes of Stephen Colbert, then we may see that blame passed to someone else very, very quickly.
