A holiday gift guide for fans of Last Week Tonight with John Oliver
By Matt Moore
If you can’t afford wax figures of former presidents, try some of these gift ideas for the Last Week Tonight with John Oliver fan in your life.
The holiday season is officially in full swing. With just a couple weeks to go until Christmas, shopping for that perfect holiday gift has become a top priority for a lot of us. So what should you get if you have a Last Week Tonight with John Oliver fan on your list? Last Night On has some ideas.
Previously we gave some ideas for fans of The Late Late Show with James Corden. But perhaps the late night viewer you’re shopping for prefers the HBO offering and the comedic stylings of another British import in John Oliver.
Last Week Tonight recently finished up its fifth season. To celebrate, Oliver debuted the trailer for a new movie featuring his wax presidents. That joke movie also included Oliver’s recent purchase of a movie prop from the Russell Crowe film Cinderella Man. Between that and Oliver’s wax figures, it’s clear that the comedian knows how to shop for himself.
Chances are you can’t get your hands on a wax president or Crowe’s jockstrap this Christmas season. So instead here is Last Night On’s gift guide for Last Week Tonight fans.
For the readers
Maybe your list features someone who likes to read every now and then but can’t get bogged down by a long novel. May we suggest a children’s book perhaps? Maybe one featuring the lovable bunny of Vice President Mike Pence? Last Week Tonight fans will certainly appreciate a copy of “A Day in the Life of Marlon Bundo.”
The book made its way to the top of Amazon’s best-seller list. It was even approved by Pence’s daughter who was happy to see proceeds going to a good cause. Pick up a copy of your own!
For a coworker
With Last Week Tonight airing just once a week on Sundays, it makes for the perfect show to recap with colleagues on a Monday morning. If that’s the case for you, then there are some gifts that would be perfect for the fellow LWT fan in your office.
He or she may want the official Last Week Tonight coffee cup to sip out of while going over John Oliver’s latest takedown. Or maybe you could go with the show’s official notebook so that the coworker can jot down some thoughts while watching the latest “How Is This Still a Thing?” segment.
Perhaps your coworkers needs a new decoration for his or her desk. Then you will definitely want to pick up the John Oliver Funko Pop figure.
For the humanitarian
John Oliver has been known to bring attention to some worthy issues during his monologues on Last Week Tonight. If you know a fan of the show, then they may be someone who is interested in the plight of others and wants to help right some wrongs.
So consider making a donation in the name of whoever you’re getting a gift for. One place you could send money is the Australia Zoo Wildlife Hospital. Why would a Last Week Tonight fan want to contribute to this organization? Because it houses the John Oliver Koala Chlamydia Ward donated by Russell Crowe on Oliver’s behalf.
Another place you could send a donation to as a gift would be the Warren G. Harding Home and Memorial in Marion, Ohio. The museum honors the 29th U.S. president, Warren G. Harding. Harding holds a special place in the hearts of Oliver and his fans. Recall that Harding is one of the presidents whose wax replica Oliver purchased and used to film a biopic.
So there you have it. The 2018 holiday gift guide for fans of Last Week Tonight with John Oliver. Any one of this gift ideas will surely put a smile on the face of whomever you give it to. Let us know if we missed any other great gift ideas and be sure to check back in with Last Night On for gift ideas from other late night shows.
