Democrats have been calling for sensible gun laws in the wake of the Parkland school shooting, and Bill Maher has advice on how to make that happen.
The “thoughts and prayers” from Donald Trump just aren’t enough…
Last night on Real Time, host Bill Maher said Donald Trump has finally accomplished something. That is, he has finally made the phrase “thoughts and prayers” totally useless. And that hasn’t been more apparent until after the Parkland massacre, when Trump tweeted something generic about thoughts and prayers. To that, at least one survivor of the shooting responded that Trump’s prayers meant nothing, and what we all really need is action.
The Real Time host just can’t understand why the “values voters” are clinging so hard to a man who’s not genuinely religious himself. Maher points to the recent death of Billy Graham as an example, noting the extreme lack of coverage or compassion surrounding it. And that comes after a lifetime of Maher watching presidents sucking up to him regardless of their party affiliation.
Maher concludes by conceding that, yes, it will be a “hard slog” to get conservatives to change their mind on gun control. But that shouldn’t just mean the fight is already over. The second amendment is just that, an amendment, and it could be amended again. And it doesn’t even mean he need to take guns away — just perhaps not make military-style weaponry so easily available to people who are “bat sh-t crazy.”
